About Our Farm

MiLo Acres is what we call our family-run farm. Its name is a combination of our own: Michael and Lori Osada. (Our daughter is also a big part of the farm, but we started it before she was born.) We have 1 dog, 2 cats, 6 goats, 1 horse, 1 ram, 2 ewes, chickens, honey bees, 2 adults and 1 teenager. Of the 36 acres we own close to Burnsville, NC, we actively farm 2 of those.

Our goal is to provide ourselves and you with the freshest, healthiest, most wholesome food we can. We also provide our customers with a personal touch. We consider the people that buy from us to be a part of our extended family. We are never too busy to answer questions. As a matter of fact, we really appreciate it when you show interest in what we do.

We feel it is very important to know where your food comes from. With the rise in fuel costs, the food contamination scares and a pandemic, buying locally is not only becoming more important, we feel it has become a necessity. There is a special connection that comes with knowing your farmer and also with the farmers knowing their customers.

We could not imagine doing anything else and are thankful to have the opportunity to impact the health of our community through our work.

We have been living in Burnsville since April of 2008. Prior to that we lived in Swannanoa, NC for 14 years where we also had large gardens. In 1995, we began selling our produce, honey, and eggs at the Black Mountain Tailgate Market.

We began selling at the Yancey County Farmer's Market in 2014. We are still currently active members.

The reason we wanted to move to Burnsville is because we feel a strong connection to the land and want to raise our daughter in a wholesome, real environment. Life on a farm is not always easy, but it is rewarding.

At MiLo Acres, we use sustainable and organic practices. We pride ourselves on continually taking classes and educating ourselves on the best and newest (or oldest!) ways of organic farming. We eat all the food we grow and are thankful that we have the opportunity to eat so healthfully.
